Clear BluePosted by liaso (Bay Area, United States) on 19 June 2008 in Landscape & Rural. While I promised a picture of the Emerald Lakes, I've decided my picture of Blue Lake is much better. This gorgeous view was just one of the many rewards of tackling the Tongariro Crossing. This was the perfect day to walk it as well. It was so clear I could see the other lakes in the distance. (The camera didn't pick them up as well as my eye did. I think it is Lake Taupo in the distance, but it could also be Lake Rotoaira. I get a bit confused when I don't write things down right away.) The snow made for a lovely contrast to all the browns. I almost wish there had been more snow for the photos, but then the crossing would probably have been harder and we would have had to wear our crampons, so it's best it was the way it was. (I did meet a local professional photographer on the crossing, who takes many pictures along the walk and walks it at least a couple of times a week, and he told me it looks even better with more snow. He was also missing some of the clouds, because an empty blue sky is a bit blase.)
