Blue Skies with New Plans

The great thing about a road trip is the flexibility your own transportation gives your travels. We had gone to Kaikoura to go whale watching. Unfortunately, we couldn't shake the grey skies that had been following us and the rain began in earnest. Whale watching canceled. What next? Let's head towards the sunniest part of New Zealand. On to Blenheim it is!

We decided to stop at a few vineyards while we were in town. Our first was Montana. A huge name in wine in New Zealand, Montana bottles over 25 different sauvignon blancs alone. What struck me was that the picture above could have just as easily been taken in California. The architecture, the sky, it all reminds me of my recent trips to Paso Robles. The wines, of course, are different as the grapes are grown in different locations and soils. But every now and then, in my New Zealand travels, I'm struck with images that remind me of home.
