It's Not Easy Being Green

I've been going through a lot of old pictures lately for a couple of different projects. One is a photo contest at my office in which we get to submit five pictures. This is one of the best photos I have that I didn't submit. Since I had a work week to collect my entries together I picked three pictures I've taken since I started my photo blog: 1) sunrise at the Richmond Bridge, 2) center of an iceland poppy, and 3) macro of a Tibouchina flower.

Because there was no set theme for the contest, entries were all over the board and I felt compelled to enter an animal photo and a building photo because other people were entering that category of photo and I'm competitive. I entered a funny close-up of a duck from my 2006 trip to the UK and a nice picture of Eilean Donan Castle from the same trip. Those photos were some of my first digital ones and therefore easy to access. I have since regretted the castle photo. Although a very good composition, the colors leave something to be desired. It was only after I submitted it that I took a closer look at my London and Edinburgh building pictures and found a couple of better shots. Not wanting to waste ink and paper, and it being the last submission day, I let it be. I have other good contenders.

If I hadn't been worried about submitting too many plant photos, I would have submitted this photo from Sissinghurst Castle Garden. I went there during the aforementioned 2006 UK trip, which was in March, so I didn't have too many plants in bloom to photograph. I also lacked a macro lens at the time. I did, however, have a lovely newish digital SLR to play with...
